a blank slate
June 1. A blank slate, a summer project.
We got the apartment!
The belle époque apartment with chevron parquet flooring and white walls and high ceilings filled with natural light. We are so excited for this breath of fresh air. Since we got married in November 2020, we’ve lived in approximately seven different rentals filled with furniture that came with the apartment.
There’s a lot of work to be done in the space, as we have no furniture currently and the kitchen comes with no appliances…apparently a quirk of renting unfurnished in France. Budgeting will be important to get the job done. But the true luxury is having time. The time to curate a space and not rush into filling it, a task we’ve found ourselves doing quite frequently with inexpensive fixes to make a rental feel homey.
To live in a space and get to fill it as you do so is what I look forward to most. There are so many French treasures in the local thrift shop. I dream of this space to host, to put our suitcases out of sight, to not have rental furniture hiding under in every nook and cranny. Home is a space of reflection, but most importantly, a space that needs to be thought out, loved and a safe haven. It’s not about brand new everything and curtains hung up immediately and being ready to host right away. But it’s a little bit like our lives in this season: messy and unfinished. There’s a lot of uncertainty and unpredictable futures, but isn’t that the beauty of it?
I’d love to take you along on the journey, so join us #chezpowless as we slowly but surely curate our little home here in the south of France. I’ve saved a lot of inspiration photos here and a few below if you fancy a glimpse of where we’re headed.
