refresh+return

It’s been WAY too long! As a personal goal to write a post at least once a month, I haven’t succeeded. However, the past few months have been rich, full of time shared with love ones and long catchups and lingering dinners.

Returning back to Nice this evening feels like the genesis of a chapter. This will be our first year spending the fall and winter in Europe. Returning home to a brand new apartment, christened by two nights of sleep in it six weeks ago, I am itching to get back and unpack, throw in many weeks of laundry and fluff. my. nest.

This summer’s travels included visiting new places-Copenhagen, Switzerland, San Sebastián, and the Hamptons and watching numerous bike races. We got to show friends around our new stomping grounds, and enlist the loving help of our families who came not only to enjoy the French Riviera, but also to help us schlep our belongings across town into an un-air-conditioned apartment in the beginning of August.

Following that, our time in California was a revival, and also some closure. I was able to choreograph on beautiful friends, flex all the creative muscles, and adventure into late nights with friends, getting to take a deep breath in knowing just how known we are by this community I moved to six years ago. Time in Texas was a blur-embarking on another choreographic venture, planting the seeds of new creative ventures, and marked most of all by the arrival of another tiny human into our family. I got to spend a few days surrounded by the people that built me, who know just how to remind me who I am.

Finally, a trip to the Hamptons was a first time venture. Fall air began to touch the sky, but the temperatures in the seventies gave a warm enough glow to invite us into the sea, or the refreshment of a pool. I lived all my best Gilmore Girls fall dreams and soaked in the iconic charm of east coast countryside living.

I’m sad to leave, but excited by the re-energization this trip has given me. I came with a very lightly packed suitcase of minimalism, and am returning with an extra carry-on, heart and Rimowa bursting with memories, mementos and tokens for our little home in Nice.

Here’s a little personal challenge to myself to write here once a week. Maybe for you, or maybe just for my own memories of this wild life to occupy a small, slightly more permanent space in this world.
