The 100 Day Project: 100 Days of Painting
If you're like me, any time you see the words "100 days of (fill in the blank)" on social media, you groan. Someone will be persistently posting and hashtagging for one hundred days, and sharing it?!
These were my initial thoughts as I read about creatives around me beginning the one hundred day project. But with some encouragement from myself, other creatives and Elle Luna herself, I embarked on the 100 day project. My mission: 100 days of painting.
So, twenty-five days in and I'm still going! Doing something consistently every day means that inspiration doesn't strike every time. But making myself paint has pushed me to try things I wouldn't have before. On a day I don't feel like painting I would normally see that blank sheet of white paper and call it a day. But this project means sharing it on Instagram to keep yourself accountable, and finding inspiration anywhere. 100 days of painting does not mean 100 days of museum worthy paintings, or 100 days of the best art you've ever made. It means just that-100 days of painting-even if it sucks!. Even when you're tired, even when you don't want to, even when inspiration has left the building and gone over to your neighbor's. So, to celebrate making it a quarter of the way through, I treated myself to a piece of Arches Watercolor Paper and a Hake watercolor brush.
This is the largest piece I've created and the nicest paper I've ever used. Ever heard the term materials make all the difference? Well I may have been converted. The fibers in this paper don't even begin to compare to the blocks of mass produced paper I've been using for my entire painting adventure. The paint stays where I put it! So, Arches, although you make my bank account wince, I now understand the necessity for high quality paper.
So, here's to 75 more days of painting and dreaming and exploring.
I've shared a few more of the paintings that I've made in the last 25 days.
